Tree surgery / Context & techniques
עצים ויערנות / טכניקה

The work positioning system is always backed-up
Context
Arboriculture ("tree surgery") is an activity with its own requirements, and must be done without damage to the tree. The use of an elevating access platform os often difficult to arrange and does not provide access to all parts of the tree.
Access to the top of the tree is mainly done from below by climbing the tree.
Trimming requires a larg amount of freedom to move around in the tree and the worker must often get in awkward position.

Techniques
Techniques developed from caving allow the worker to move upward and downward very easily:
  • climbing a double rope using 2 handled rope clamps / grabs and 'foot lock'
  • climbing a single rope (PANTIN, Prusik) set up in a running configuration
  • climbing a single rope using a ventral rope clamp / grab (rope fixed at the base of the tree using a releasable knot to enable resque in the case of a problem
  • older techniques using a double rope and Prusik hitch
  • descent using a descender descender with a recoverable rope system
During trimming, techniques for precise work positioning are put into practice for balance and for protection"
  • harnesses + adjustable lanyards must provide comfortable support in all positions
  • the work positioning system is always backed-up
